GIT along little doggies!!

There is a new ResCarta source code repository.

HTTP://Software.ResCarta.org is the location you need to know for all current updates to the ResCarta source code.  The foundation uses Git to manage our source code. The rc-tools Git repository contains the source code for all of the ResCarta Tools and SDKs.

Visit our new WIKI and Maven Repository.  Find our SDK documentation and much more.

We hope you find it to your liking.  Please let us know what we can do to improve your access to the project.

ScanDay

Galesville Public Library held its first "Scan Day" last Saturday (January 29, 2011)

The staff of the Galesville Public Library celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the library by holding a "Scan Day".  Patrons were encouraged to bring photographs, documents and artifacts to the library on a cold Wisconsin day so they could be digitized. The ResCarta Foundation assisted the staff in preparing scans and building a website with the materials.

The library director sent us this note on Monday. "This is all just wonderful.  We have received so many positive comments already."

"Just goes to show ya", creating digital collections can be fun.

ResCarta to CONTENTdm....No Problem!

Recently, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Alabama's largest living museum had their scrapbooks professionally scanned.  The idea was to host them at the gardens and share them by adding the content to the Alabama State collections.  That meant getting the data in a standard archive format then getting the data into a CONTENTdm server at Auburn University.

The staff at the ResCarta Foundation assisted by converting their ResCarta formatted  data to a CONTENTdm import format which made the addition to the Alabama State collections a breeze.

If your organization is struggling to keep your digital materials in a standard format and also use CONTENTdm for web display, contact the ResCarta Foundation to learn how to do both without losing sleep over it.

Independence declares its Independence

ResCarta staff spent a day with staff and friends of the Independence Public Library (Independence, WI) and in a few short hours the Independence Archives were started.

The library director started the scanning and metadata creation task and placed the first of many historic photographs on the library website. "Wow!  This is great and to think we can do this..."

The ResCarta Foundation is happy to assist in the building of the National Digital Public Library, one library at a time.

ResCarta congratulates HEICO Corporation

Forbes Magazine has included HEICO Corporation as one of the 100 Best Small Companies in Forbes 2010 annual list. This marks the 5th consecutive year HEICO has been included in the list of Forbes 200 Best Small Companies and the first year of HEICOs inclusion in the top 100 List.

"HEICO built a research library and data repository using the free and open ResCarta data format. It helps us standardize our various data silos", says Randy Nelson, technical services director. "We wanted a standards based system for long term use of and access to our data."
